The Secret of Nightingale Wood
This book is about a girl called Henry (short from Henrietta) who has just moved to a new house called Hope House. She has moved with her family because her brother died and they wanted to start a new life.
Mysterious things start to happen at Hope House – mama gets sick; dad is abroad; Nanny Jane is looking after Henry’s younger sister Piglet; the doctor insists on mum’s door being locked; a strange, limping man keeps appearing and Henry keeps seeing smoke coming from the woods.
When Henry goes into the woods for the first time, she meets a strange, witch who one day looks after her when she gets a cold. This sparks an unusual friendship between the two.

I recommend this book to age 10+ readers who like suspense and mystery and a bit of magic. I give it 10/10.
